LANCASTER – For the third year in a row, the Antelope Valley Transit Authority has been named a 2014 AdWheel Award winner by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). AVTA was honored with two first place awards during APTA’s Annual Meeting and Expo in Houston near the end of October.

The APTA AdWheel Awards recognize public transportation systems for excellence in advertising, communication, marketing, and promotion.

The “Power On” ad for its zero-emissions electric bus was awarded first place in the category of Advertisement-Advocacy/Awareness. The “Take AVTA to the Fair!” interior transit card, promoting special bus service to the Antelope Valley Fair, received first place in the Transit Card category.

More than 500 entries competed this year in the five categories of print, electronic, campaign, special event, and social media. Both AVTA entries competed in the transit group with four million or fewer passenger trips per year.

“We are so honored to receive these awards, as both of these ads reflect values that are at the heart of AVTA,” stated Executive Director Julie Austin. “Our creative team really captured the spirit of our dedication to the community in these ads, and we are delighted to see this recognition of their efforts.”

The agency won previous AdWheel Awards in 2012 and again in 2013, for both print and television ads, along with a travel training video. The television ad “Feel Like Ridin” was a Grand Prize Winner in 2013 in the Electronic Media category.

“The marketing and advertising team at AVTA continues to distinguish itself in the public transportation industry year after year with high-quality, visual designs and concepts,” said Board Chairman Norm Hickling. “This award is a well-deserved acknowledgement of their creative talents.”
