Volunteer chaplains honored

LANCASTER – Antelope Valley Hospital’s Pastoral Care Department recognized 34 chaplains during its 24th Annual Volunteer Chaplains Banquet last week.

The volunteer chaplains were commended for their hours of ministering to the spiritual needs of patients, family and staff at the hospital.

As part of Antelope Valley Hospital’s interdisciplinary healthcare team, volunteer chaplains serve as trusted and professionally trained counselors who help others find comfort through spiritual strength, support palliative care patients, provide bioethics consultation and facilitate family-physician discussions.

The Pastoral Care Department began in 1972.

    Two years ago this month, my Ex was in intensive care, in really bad shape. A pastor at the hospital was visiting someone in the next room and saw me crying. He came in and offered prayers. Such a loving, gentle man. I don’t remember his name but I want to thank him because my Ex recovered and is doing very well. God Bless you Pastor!
