PALMDALE – A 21-year-old Palmdale mother and her 24-year-old boyfriend have been charged with torturing and murdering the woman’s 2-year-old son, authorities said.
Rosie Lee Wilson and Brandon Jerel Williams face one count each of murder, assault on a child causing death and torture in connection with the death of Anthony, according to Deputy District Attorney Theodore Swanson.
Anthony lived with his mother and her boyfriend, Wilson and Williams, on 26th Street East in Palmdale. On Aug. 21, the toddler who had signs of prior abuse was severely beaten, the prosecutor said.
Anthony remained in critical condition until his death 41 days later, the prosecutor added.
The criminal case was originally filed on Aug. 26 and amended Oct. 9 following the toddler’s death on Oct. 5.
If convicted as charged, Williams and Wilson face maximum sentences of life in prison.
They are both due back in court Oct. 14 for arraignment.
Bail for both defendants has been set at more than $2 million.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Palmdale Station.
UPDATED 10/14/14: Wilson and Williams appeared in an Antelope Valley courtroom today, but did not enter a plea. Arraignment was instead postponed until Monday, Dec. 1. We will continue to follow this story.
