POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony set for Friday

PALMDALE – This Friday is National POW/MIA Recognition Day, a day meant to honor prisoners of war, those still missing in action and their families. To mark the solemn event, the Antelope Valley Service Organization Association and the City of Palmdale will hold its annual POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony.

The event will start at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 19, at Poncitlán Square, located at 38315 9th Street East, Palmdale (between Avenues Q-9 and Q-10.)

The POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony is free and open to the public. Attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair and sun umbrella to the event.

The master of ceremonies will be Bobby Breech; Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford will provide welcome remarks; and John E.A. Clarke will lead the Invocation and Benediction.

Major Conrad Hernandez and the Highland High School Air Force JROTC will conduct the Posting of Colors and will lead the Pledge of Allegiance and Table of Honor ceremony.

Featured guest speakers will include California Assembly Member Steve Fox, 36th District, Elks Lodge 2027 Exalted Ruler Julio Nieves and Daniel W. Kirmel.
