LANCASTER – A Palmdale teen driver was killed and two passengers suffered major injuries early Friday morning when the vehicle they were riding in careened off the roadway and overturned numerous times, authorities said.

The single-vehicle fatal collision occurred around 1:05 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22 on East Avenue K near 90th Street East, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

Eighteen-year-old Joshua Coti was driving a 2006 Honda Civic eastbound on Avenue K, “at an extremely high rate of speed,” when he failed to stop for a posted stop sign at the intersection of Avenue K and 90th Street East, the CHP report states.

“Coti lost control of the Civic east of the intersection, which caused the Civic to travel off the roadway and onto the south dirt shoulder.  The Civic then collided with an Edison power pole, shearing the pole at the base,” the CHP report states.

The Civic flipped numerous times as it careened further out of control; and Coti, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle onto the dirt shoulder, the CHP report states.

The Palmdale teen was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department 135 personnel.

Daniel Benitez, 20, of Lancaster and Oscar Gutierrez, 20, of Lancaster, were passengers in the vehicle. Both suffered major injuries and were transported to Antelope Valley Hospital, according to the CHP report.

The collision remains under investigation.

WOW!! I feel really bad for you one day that it will be too late for you realize that God is completely real and to denounce your maker is terrible.. I feel so bad for ignorant people like you.. Maybe your life didn’t go your way and that is the reason for your beliefs now..but God has a plan for each person either good or bad you have a choice to follow or not I hope you change your mind one day and know God truly loves you.

It will be hard for some to take responsibility when they have been raised in a society that says it is not their fault from childhood on.

It is highly inappropriate, classless, and just plain mean to leave comments like this. I am an atheist, but I do not feel it necessary to justify my belief in order to slag others’ faith. Especially when it concerns others who are mourning, grieving, and turning to their own faith in search for answers. It is very telling about someone who chooses a forum like this for religious debate rather than offer sympathy, comfort, and condolences for the friends and family of said victims.

Dearest Enrique, I’m sure that you don’t remember our family but we remember and love yours ever since you boys were born. We know your Mother very well. There are no words to express how very sorry we are to hear about your brother Joshua. Our hearts are broken for you and your family. Please take comfort in knowing you and your family are in the prayers of many many people out there, some you may never know. Don’t be sad anymore sweetheart. Joshua is with God and other family members who have passed and will be well taken care of. You’ll see him again one day, but not today, not tomorrow. Today you’ll be strong and you’ll be there for your parents. God bless you and your family Enrique. Much love.

That’s really sad. I don’t think that most teens understand that driving is a huge responsibility and not a game. A tragic lesson taught over and over again. This is heartbreaking. I pray for all our Teens out on the roads To Be Safe and Slow Down. Your Lives Are So Precious…..

He’s in the arms of our Creator. One of the most painful ways to lose a loved one not given the opportunity to say goodbye.
