PALMDALE – An online fundraiser has been set up to cover funeral expenses for the Palmdale couple killed in a single-car crash last week on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway.
Ivan Ramirez, 31, was driving a Ford Focus in the northbound carpool lane when the car veered off the roadway and crashed into a guard rail and a large metal pole.
Felicia Martinez was in the front passenger seat, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ramirez was rushed to Palmdale Regional Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.
The couple’s one-year-old daughter was also in the vehicle, and the infant survived the crash with injuries.
Baby Violeta was flown by helicopter to the University of Southern California (USC) Medical Center and is now in stable condition in the hospital, according to family members.
Family members have set up an account at Bank of America (#325043528732) to accept donations to bury the couple and to help care for the couple’s daughter.
“Unfortunately, with tragedies like these we are unprepared for what follows; therefore we are asking for your help to raise funds for their funerals,” states the family on a Facebook message. “Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated.”
The family is also accepting donations through an online memorial fundraiser. To donate online, visit http://www.gofundme.com/c4re14?fblogin=2.

. my condolences. to the family members affected. but if you look at the picture. There’s a guardrail right in front of the pole. so stop being detectives and move on. and stop blaming the speed or the driver or the pole or maybe because they were arguing you would never know. point. let the people rest in peace.

I am sorrg for the loss of two lives, but theres no blame or fault of Caitrans. Simply put if speed was a factor as to some people stated was involved. If you look where the pole is there is a guard rail . This individual crashed thru it. Something went on before the crash and no one will ever know. People just need to relax and not be in a hurry. If ou get sleepy pull over, if youre drinking get someone to drive or call a taxi. If youre fighting and arguing, calm down and take a chill pill. Its not worh it people to lose your life or others.

Totally agree with you. Husband and I were stuck in the traffic. Saw the accident. First thing I said was maybe they were fighting or fell asleep at the wheel. Maybe someone ran them off the road. Idk. But poor baby. Just lost both parents and doesn’t even know it. :(

All the two people who replied here can do is blame the pole and Caltrans, and file a lawsuit? What about the baby who has no parents and what about the responsibility of the parents? Why did they swerve off freeway? And what if the pole wasn’t there and they went into opposite lanes crashing into an innocent driver on other side?

Prayers to the family and young child. Speedy recovery. So sad. But yes, large pole like that, no protection around it?
dumbandblind says
This is precisely why people should prepare themselves for the inevitable.
BE RESPONSIBLE AND BUY LIFE INSURANCE!
It is oftentimes less expensive than auto insurance.

Mr dumbandblind. stop calling the affected irresponsible. you being offensive
and it is uncalled for. show some respect if you educated. if you want to make a difference than donate you paycheck to people less fortunate.
dumbandblind says
Better to get hurt by the truth than comforted with a lie.
I suggest you get your policy before its too late.

CalTrans needs to be served a lawsuit for placing that pole in a spot where eventually it would be hit. Condolences to the family and to the little girl.
A richards says
Yeah, they should make signs that have no poles because they float…. You basically are saying that every pole along a road will eventually get hit and a lawsuit should be filed…. Ha ha, maybe sue the car company for making a car go so fast, oh my, sue the tire company for making tires that can handle that speed, sue the rescue personal for not performing a miracle…..

^^^ THIS!!! LOL
