Local artists needed for ‘ENCORE’

by The AV Times Staff • July 18, 2014

Calling all artistsPALMDALE – The Palmdale Playhouse is calling all artists to participate in a special juried art exhibition titled “ENCORE,” which will be held in conjunction with the theatre’s 20th year celebration beginning this September.

Artists may download an application at www.cityofpalmdale.org or pick one up between 7:30 am and 6 pm at the Palmdale recreation and culture office, located at 38260 10th St. East in Palmdale.

A photo or a DVD/CD of the artwork must be included for identification purposes and returned with the application before the deadline date, August 27.

Artists may submit up to three entries in any medium. The City of Palmdale will notify artists if submitted work(s) are approved and accepted for showing.

Accepted artwork must not be larger than 16” x 24”, and be ready to hang. The artist’s name, title of the piece and any additional information about the painting must be on the back and be delivered to the Palmdale Playhouse on Monday, Sept. 8, 2014 between 3 pm and 7 pm.

The exhibition will be displayed from Sept. 11 through Nov. 2 at the Palmdale Playhouse, with an opening night reception on Thursday, Sept. 11, from 6-9 pm.

The art will be judged by a panel of noted community members, and first, second and third place awards will be presented at the reception.

Winning works of art will be featured in the 2015 Winter Edition of Palmdale News/Activities/Entertainment Magazine.

For more information, call the Palmdale Playhouse at 661-267-5684.

It would be helpful to post the link for the application, it took some searching around before I finally found it…
    http://www.cityofpalmdale.org/Portals/0/Documents/Playhouse/Encore%20Artist%20Application.pdf

    It says:
“Entries may be in “any medium”, not larger than 16” x 24”, and ready to hang. The artist’s name, name of the piece and any additional information about the “painting” must be on the back.” Does this mean photography can or cannot be entered? It would be nice if they gave more information…There is nothing that tells what they are awarding as prizes for winners either. It would be nice to know and maybe add some incentive to enter…Just a suggestion

Considering it also says “any medium” I think using the term “painting” there was just a flub. I don’t see why photography would be completely out of the question, and I mean it never hurts to enter anyway.

Is this for painting only or photography as well?
