PALMDALE – An employee for the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Recruitment Bureau was one of two people who sustained minor injuries Sunday morning when three vehicles collided in a Palmdale intersection, authorities said.

The collision happened around 8:30 a.m., Sunday, June 8 on Rancho Vista Boulevard at 30th Street West, according to Lieutenant Wright of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

The Honda Civic's driver was treated for minor injuries at the hospital, authorities said. (JOHN MEZA)

“She (LASD employee) was traveling eastbound on Rancho Vista Boulevard, going through the intersection at 30th Street West, [when] she either struck or was struck by a 2012 GMC Terrain,” Wright said. “Also struck was a 1996 Honda Civic.”

The LASD employee and the Honda Civic’s driver were transported to the hospital, treated for minor injuries and then released, Wright said.

The driver of the GMC Terrain was evaluated at the scene but declined medical treatment at that time, Wright said.

The intersection was closed for several hours as authorities investigated the collision, witnesses said. The collision is still under investigation.

Wow…how fast was she traveling to end up by the tennis courts?….I hope all that dark tint and advertising on the lasd vehicle didn’t obstruct her vision? or perhaps she forgot that she must obey the traffic signals as well?

I got an automated phone recording telling me that the intersection was closed.

    Did anyone else get one?

I got one too. I live about one mile west of that intersection.

This whole thing was a joke, they had the area closed for so long and had so many cones and signs showing roads closed, a bunch of sheriffs standing around and they did not do anything about how their road closed detours were sending cars into a neighborhood that had no exit to get to the other side of the intersection. They really need a few lessons on how to manage traffic and instead of having people standing around by their cars, they need to direct the large amount of traffic and get people moving in the right direction. Their rod closed sign for west bound traffic sent people to the south towards Highland High, naturally people think they go through the neighborhood and then get back to Ranch Vista, turn left and be on their way…. wrong, had that closed too and sent cars into the neighborhood that just circles around with no exit just to be back to where you started…. Ridiculous….. and then to see it was such a minor accident….. what a joke.

Where did you want them to re-route traffic? Considering the surrounding streets there really wasn’t any other choice. There is desert and mountain, and the neighborhood backs up into mountain or school. The only ways around require you driving a mike the other way regardless if the direction you are traveling. If you don’t know the area that unfortunately had you going in circles. The next street being so far away it would’ve been even more of a waste of resources to have sheriffs directing traffic for miles in each direction. I’m not denying there was a lot of standing around (I saw a lot of volunteer sheriffs helping traffic) but at least it kept people from driving thru the dangerous intersection and causing another accident or damaging your car. It was just a really crappy place for an accident. I wouldn’t say it was minor…thankfully it wasn’t fatal!

Accident was at 8:30am I was going through at 1:15pm, road closed that long is the joke. And a simple intersection ahead closed use 20th and then have signs route the traffic down past 30th back to Rancho…. Not difficult, and it did not require that long of a road closure, hell the people transported to the hospital were probably released before the intersection was back open. All those people, you would hope one of them would have a little education on traffic control…. And the intersection could have easily been set up with a lane going each direction on the south side of the road after the first hour of the investigation….. And when I went by there was still 3 regular patrol cars parked with the people just standing around….. That was over four hours later…..

Are you kidding me? Ypur little rant was pathetic! Guess what? No one cares about how inconvenienced you where! If your so dumb you were driving around in circles I find that funny! Your a joke! My guess you are some soccer mom that’s pissed because you had to go out of your way to get to Starbucks for you low fat coffe before you and you overweight friends go to yoga! You should move to la with all the other morons who hate cops and have no idea how to drive or navigate! Words can not describe how annoyed I was by your rant!

5 hours to investigate and man hours used to set up cones and road close signs in a manner that was not good to get traffic through is sad for anyone, especially our tax dollars…. It didn’t I convince me at all, I just saw how many people that were follow the directions of a detour they set up that led to a dead end…. But your simple mind can’t see the logic of these posts…. Sorry this wasn’t dumbed down enough for you.

Funny how nowhere did I say I hate cops…. Just would like to see some efficiency and planning…. Doesn’t take much… I drove through their, figured if I followed their detour I would be at the intersection, turn left and be on my way…. But no, it led to a dead end neighborhood, so I backtracked to 20th to avoid the dirt roads and then got to Ave O, proceeded west and past 30th to continue on Town Center Dr and back onto Rancho Vista…. Took all of a few seconds and wow, detour to move traffic complete….. But their was a large amount of traffic building at their detour to 30th and ended at Twincreek Ave just south of the intersection…. Even a city bus was having to try and back up to turn around at the point their detour lead to a dead end….. When I head back I was able to turn right onto 30 the from Rancho and saw the traffic problem still a mess 45 mins later….. But the sheriff was still there standing in the road talking with another sheriff and looking at the cluster of traffic…. So yes, the rant is about inefficiency and not about me hating cops…..

Gotta love the conspiracy theories! A bit of education: the female employee involved in the crash was not a cop, she was a civilian, with no connection to either of our local stations. This will shock some of you, but the Sheriff’s Dept hires from the human race. And the human race crashes cars sometimes! Our local traffic deputy has no interest in swaying the cause of a crash one way or another, and if he did, the technology in cars today is so complex, the black boxes can be pulled to find every detail at the point of impact. I like how we will call deputies when our kid is missing, when our house is broken into, when the boogie man is at our door, but oh, we need CHP to investigate a crash where minor injuries occurred. And to you morons complaining that the road was closed for so long: our society has gotten so bad with freeloaders and their imaginary back and neck pain upon seeing the Sheriff logo, or a logo for any other company thought to have deep pockets. They have to document every square inch of pavement to lessen the lawsuits in incidents like this. Also, to you whiners about the street being closed and interrupting your Starbucks and yoga trip (hilarious @Boomboom above!), go to youtube and type in “but I live right there” Think about the video next time your life “goes to hell” and you are “baffled” by a sign or a cop telling you to take an alternate route!!

So are you telling me that if I get in a wreck with my company truck, they will do the same long investigation…. And you didn’t touch on the fact that they could actually have directed traffic and not just stood by their car….. I have actually traveled to differant parts of this world and country…. They could have used a brain somewhere and set up a detour and not had cars routed into a neighborhood…. But your simple minds only comment back on one thing…. It is not hard to set detours and direct traffic…. But you simple minded dips can go on and live life without ever expecting things to run smoother….

My niece was involved in the accident. I called the Palmdale Station and talked with Lt Wright, very nice guy. I requested that the Highway Patrol be contacted and do the investigation but Lt Wright said a unit was coming up from downtown to investigate. I would think anytime a Sheriff vehicle is involved in a accident the Highway Patrol would do the investigation.

The LASD employee when extracted was holding her cell phone in her hand. You can make your own assumtions who was at fault.

Mother of god mike! Did you ever think about maybe she was calling her family or superviser after she was involved in the accident!? I don’t care if I see cops/fireman on their phones while driving! I will say I call on UPS/fedex drivers weekly! I think the office managers know me by name by now! Only wish I know how many of the reckless dudes I have gotten fired!

We live near that intersection. We were sitting on our patio and didn’t hear a thing except sirens. I prayed all day for those involved. I’m so happy no one was seriously hurt.

I am tired of these speed demons on Rancho Vista along 50th. Some are going at least 20 miles over the speed limit of 55 mph. The motorcyclists are the worst for speeding. God help them for one day…………….

Great powers of deduction there, Rosa. nowhere in the article does it say the female driver from LASD caused the accident. But apparently you’ve figured it all out on your own. Good job!

Lol woman or not, the fact that they did not state who was at fault only means that the sheriff was. If it wasn’t the sheriff they would not have hesitated to say who was at fault.

It’s called an investigation for a reason. Why jump to conclusions when all the facts haven’t been presented? Goodness people, get a grip!

It’s not that hard to determine who is at fault at the scene of an accident where there were witnesses and the drivers of the other two cars are able to tell their side of the story…a simple accident involving just three normalcitizens, they would have already placed the blame on someone but since this is a LAPD recruiter they don’t want to step on anybody’s toes…total bull[removed].

Of course a woman caused the accident! Lol
