by The AV Times Staff • June 5, 2014

CHP hiring 2014SACRAMENTO – The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will accept applications in July from individuals interested in a career as a CHP officer. The CHP is looking to hire cadets from a pool of applicants to fill vacant officer positions throughout the state.

“We are looking for members of our communities to join one of the most well-known law enforcement agencies in the world,” said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow. “The CHP is looking for men and women who represent the diverse communities that we serve to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security to the people of California.”

How to apply

Applications will only be accepted online during a four-day period beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 7, and ending at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014.

This brief application period marks the first time this year the CHP has accepted applications. Those interested in applying, or seeking additional information, should visit www.chpcareers.com.

“A life with the CHP is a career, not a job,” added Commissioner Farrow. “We invite all interested members of our communities to apply during the four day application period.”

Minimum qualifications for candidates include:

  • Must be 20-35 years old,
  • A U.S. citizen,
  • Have no felony convictions, and
  • Be a high school graduate.

Each applicant will be required to complete the entire testing process, including a physical ability test, written test, background investigation, medical/vision evaluation, and psychological evaluation.

All components of the testing process, as well as an applicant study guide and practice test can be found online at www.chpcareers.com.

Be sure to visit the CHP’s recruitment Facebook page at www.facebook.com/chp.recruiting.

Exactly how difficult is the pellet exam? I took it before with the Sac Sherriff and did not pass. So I then applied for corrections and I’m waiting to go to the Academy now.

The chp are the biggest Hippocrates they speed over 80 mph with no emergency lights but they want to give people speeding tickets. I think we should all start video taping them and put them online.

They have a reason they go above the speed limit, they they respond to emergencies. You’re the biggest moron. I hope chp pulls you over!

I know people in law enforcement, they have sirens for a reason, but seldomely do they use them. When they turn the sirens on they make people aware their is a emergency and to move to the side that also activates their dashboard camera. But this chp in the Av just want to race up and down for no reason at all and they put the public in danger by not putting their sirens on. Please educate yourself before you assume.

No Chp officer is going to race up and down a highway for fun. Their job has enough adrenaline causing events last thing they want to do is haul ass just because. In fact they have policy of when they can’t use the siren so if they get a call to rescue your mom on the side of the road because she’s dehydrated and paramedics are closer. They will get I trouble if they use their siren because it will cause ignorant people like you to change lanes and cut off someone who’s not paying attention. So if they speed at 80 which is nothing, they will simply go around you rather than making you change your path of travel into someone who’s not paying attention. Think before you talk [removed] about Hero’s who will end up saving you or your families life.
