3 DUI drivers nabbed at Memorial Day weekend checkpoints

LANCASTER – A sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint in Lancaster Friday netted two arrests for driving under the influence and 22 arrests for other traffic violations;  while a DUI checkpoint in Quartz Hill Saturday netted one DUI arrest, authorities said.

In Lancaster, the checkpoint location was on Avenue K at Elm Avenue, and it was conducted by personnel from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m., May 23, 2014.

The results from that checkpoint are as follows:

* 1030 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint.

* 970 drivers checked at the checkpoint.

* One DUI – drug (marijuana) suspect arrested.

* One DUI – alcohol suspect arrested. (The suspect was also charged with forgery, forgery of the state seal, driving a vehicle without an ignition interlock device and driving on a suspended driver’s license. The DUI arrest was his fourth in 10 years and it will be charged as a felony, according to Deputy Jon White of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station).

* One suspect was arrested for driving a vehicle not equipped with an Ignition Interlock Device (IID) as required by law, 23247(e) CVC.

* One suspect was arrested for a $40k traffic warrant and sent to court.

* Six suspended / revoked drivers were arrested and sent to court.

* 14 unlicensed drivers were arrested and sent to court.

* Three vehicles were stored for one day.

* 10 vehicles were impounded for 30 days.

* Seven vehicles were released per checkpoint release procedures.

CHP checkpoint results

Local California Highway Patrol officers conducted a driving under the influence (DUI) and driver license safety checkpoint on Saturday (May 24) on 50th Street West, just north of Avenue M-4.

The results from that checkpoint are as follows:

* 401 drivers were screened at the checkpoint.

* 11 drivers were given field sobriety tests.

* One driver was arrested for DUI, child endangerment and a warrant. 

Funding for both checkpoints was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
