Motorcycle collides with car, 5-year-old boy killed

Fatal crash graphicLANCASTER – A five-year-old Lancaster boy died after a crash involving a car and a motorcycle Thursday night, authorities said.

Coroner’s officials identified the boy as Dorian Ramcharam.

The child succumbed to his injuries at Antelope Valley Hospital shortly after the collision, which occurred around 8:46 p.m. Thursday, May 15 on Avenue K at 15th Street East in Lancaster, according to Sgt. David Jennings of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.

“The preliminary investigation indicates a motorcyclist was eastbound on Avenue K when the driver of a 98 Chrysler Concorde made a left turn in front of him,” Jennings stated. “The motorcyclist was unable to avoid the car and struck it on the right rear passenger door.”

“The passenger sitting at that door, a five-year-old male, took the full force of the collision,” Jennings continued.

The motorcyclist suffered significant injuries and is in serious condition, according to Jennings. The Chrysler’s driver and another passenger received minor to moderate injuries, stated Jennings.

The names of the drivers were not immediately available Friday morning.

Witnesses at the crash site stated the light was yellow for both parties, according to Jennings.

It is unknown if alcohol was a factor at this time.

Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact the Lancaster Sheriff Station’s Traffic Detail at 661-948-8466.

To the family of Dorian ramcharam my deepest condolences to u guys, it brakes my hart to hear so such a young life was lost, my son was in his class at Joshua elementary and when he heard his friend was gone he.was saddened my prayers go out to ur whole family stay strong and the man up stairs will now take care of him and ur family will always have him as a little angel rhat will watch over ur whole family..

  2. I am sincerely sorry for your loss, my father was suffering from a liver disease and on this date my father received a liver. The doctors wont tell us the mans name but that the liver came from a man 30 yrs of age and 2 hrs away on helicopter to Stanford Hospital. This man was a donor of his liver, heart and kidneys. My father is now recovering and looking better than ever. I thank god, and am truly sincere for the man and his family.

  12. People should not post comments unless they know the facts. The sheriff’s said that the driver off the car was at fault. Not the motorcyclist. My nephew was the motorcyclist and he also has a child of his own. He’s a loving father and husband. Everyone keep him in your prayers.

    • I worked with oscar in oregon at aramark. He was a stand up guy. i am incredibly saddened by this news. I talked to him for quite a while before he left, i was looking forward to seeing him again one day. I am very sorry for the loss.

    My cousin was the motorcyclist. He was cut off by the Chrysler. The five year old’sfamily even stated that it was the driver’s fault. Not my cousin. My cousin is in the hospital but is in extremely bad condition. Please pray for him as well. Both family’s are broken. Not just one.

    • I commented because My nephew is the motorcyclist. He was not at fault. We got our info from the police as well as the driver of the auto..The cyclist WAS NOT at fault.. Do you realize both families will see these comments and it will cause them more pain? Instead of making assumptions say a prayer for the families. It really doesn’t matter who you think is at fault a child lost his life way too soon and this could have easily happened to you or your family.

    • People, please read the article carefully. It says Dorian was in the REAR passenger seat, NOT the front. And nowhere does it say he wasn’t in a carseat. Two people have lost their lives and families are grieving. Let’s not add to this by commenting with inaccurate facts.

      • A 5 year old should not have been in a booster seat, he should have been in a five point harness carseat, true by law he can ride in a booster seat in the back since a 1998 Chrysler Concorde has a shoulder and lap strap which is required for proper use of a booster, but that does not mean that you put a childs life at risk by putting them in the minimum the law requires, most adjustable carseats on the market go from infant all the way to 100 lbs, I know my son’s does and his little ass is gonna be in it until he can drive himself. I suppose whoever was driving the car now knows a “yellow light means slow down”, not “get across before it turns red”.. hopefully at least they learned so they don’t kill another child! Irresponsibility takes lives, most commonly those you care the most about!

    Also Rest in Peace to the Motorcyclist. I heard he passed away this morning from neighbors.

    As a long time resident of that neighborhood, the light on 15 st east is freaky n very fast, dangerous.

    There have been numerous of Accidents and Death at that intersection of K and 15 st East. We have complained that the light for 15 is way to fast. The light will change green for 15 and before you get across , it turns yellow to red before you cross K.

    The speed limit on K in that area needs to be lowered. It’s 50, and at night anyone who lives in the AV knows that’s an easy 60.

    Also if anyone on this site lives in that area, How many times has the house on the corner has had his block wall knocked into with most times a car landing in his backyard.

This is so heartbreaking, I just want people who leave comments here to know that this is my family and it is hard to read these some of these comments without thinking do people really care that a 5 year old Angel was killed. I had to see my great nephews lifeless body last night and all of the people involved (except for the motorcycle driver) and I got to tell you that everyone is remorseful for everything. The last thing on my mind right now is whether or not anyone was intoxicated, and if you were there you would know right away that no one was drunk. This was an accident, like accidents that happen everyday to people all over and right now my heart goes out to my niece, sister, step father and the entire family on both sides. I love you all…

    • I had an accident there almost 19 years ago lost a young good friend and almost my sister after the car flipped 3 times and threw my sister and her friend outta the car about 300 feet from where the car stopped after the accident…I know how hard that can be and my prayers go out to all of you. Not all car accidents are because of under the influence of alcohol/pills/drugs, some do make poor choices when driving like speeding up at a yellow light to beat the red light, another is not turning on their blinker and assuming the person behind or next to them is psychic and knows what they are thinking, changing lanes with out looking, road rage, on their phone texting, etc… according to a witness who posted on fb both drivers sped up to beat the red light which caused the accident.
    Right now the worst part is we lost a little angel who was most needed in heaven. So sorry you didn’t even get to finish kindergarten and we are so hurt and saddened that we will no longer be able to see your little face. RIP Little Dorian. You will be missed.

God Bless to both families ! I do always look out for bikes, my brother rides a bike, can’t imagine life without him. This story brought tears to my eyes of Oscar Garcia donating Liver to father, (that’s awesome! Hope dad is doing well), my father recently passed, he was on dialysis but starting refusing to go. I love him so much!

        • They did chk my brother’s system its standard in all fatal car accident and yes he was clean…not even a tTylenol in his system. ..and as far as speed according to the sheriff he was not speeding…but yes we are waiting on the police report…

  30. The guy turning left is pretty much always at fault rather than the one going straight. The person going straight has the right of way. Sometimes the person turning left has his view obstructed if another car on the opposite side is turning left or there’s a line of them waiting. I’ve seen this type of accident on O and 30th about 10 times this past year. People going both ways need to be careful.

  34. As a side note……what an inflammatory headline!
    We already get enough bad press as motorcycle riders. The headline is sensationalized to grab the reader’s attention, but it automatically creates a bias against the motorcycle rider.
    Yellow or green…the MOTORCYCLE had the right of way.
    The rider was a victim…just like the child.

    And my heart breaks for the rider if he/she actually seen the child before impact. The rider has a lot of healing to do as well.

    Shame on the author for adding to the biker stigma.

  35. Sadly, motorcycle riders die daily due to cars turning left in front of us. The rider has my prayers for a speedy healing. The driver of the car has my prayers because they have to live with the guilt and remorse for their mistake. RIP lil one….God has you now.

    • The motorcyclist is ALIVE and is fighting…please send positive prayers and thoughts to both parties involved. One life was lost another is fighting and both families are suffering .Love and prayers to both.

        • If the motorcycle was eastbound, the light was yellow for both, and the motorcycle hit the passenger door, the Chrysler had to be westbound; it’s self-explanatory.

    • It happens more than you think. J8 and 25th West you hear it all the time. Evn heard both parties say that both lights were green and the accident for damn sure showed that…

    • Hey Bob, I questioned at first, then realized the car was heading westbound on Avenue K. There are no turn signals at this intersection, regardless of North/South/East/West. This is fairly busy intersection, as people use it to avoid the traffic on 20th east and the traffic on Challenger. Adding to the problem is this is the beginning area of urbanization on eastbound Avenue K. Traffic from that street is coming out from Lake LA and such, and can sometimes pick up a fairly high rate of speed if they weren’t slowed near the soccer fields.
