LANCASTER – A 66-year-old Woodland Hills man was killed Sunday after his “special construction motorcycle” swerved off the road and slammed into a power pole, authorities said.
Charles Gilbert Pruitt was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle collision, which occurred on 170th Street East, north of Avenue M, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
CHP and LA County Fire Department responded to the traffic collision scene around 11:50 p.m. Sunday, May 4, the CHP report states.
“Charles Gilbert Pruitt was riding a special construction motorcycle southbound on 170th Street East, north of Avenue M at an unknown speed, when, for reasons unknown, Charles Gilbert Pruitt allowed the special construction motorcycle to leave the roadway and travel onto the dirt right shoulder, where it collided with a wooden pole,” the CHP report states.
The fatal collision remains under investigation.

Special Construction indicates that the bike does not have a manufacture’s Title. Generally these are usually Choppers either home-built or made by a Custom Shop like Big Bear Choppers. They are usually a handful to manage in any unusual situation (like a bend in the road).

What is a “special construction motorcyle”? One that was customly made?
RK says
Could be as simple as totally stock, but built with parts from two different bikes. I had one that was identical to the stock version except was built from parts.
