LANCASTER – Deputies from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on Friday, May 2, at an undisclosed location in Lancaster, between the hours of 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.
Deputies will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment. Deputies will also check for proper licensing and will strive to delay motorists only momentarily. Drivers caught driving impaired can expect jail, license suspension, and insurance increases, as well as fines, fees, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10,000.
In 2011, nearly 10,000 people were killed nationally in motor vehicle traffic crashes that involved at least one driver or motorcycle rider with a blood alcohol concentration of .08% or higher. In California, this deadly crime led to 774 deaths because someone failed to designate a sober driver. “Over the course of the past three years, DUI collisions have claimed 49 lives and resulted in 893 injury crashes harming 1,113 of our friends and neighbors,” said Sgt. Joseph Jakl of the Risk Management Bureau.
Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.
Funding for the checkpoint is provided to Lancaster Sheriff’s Station by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The problem that i have is where they schedule their check points. seems to me it is always located near resturant locations that serve alcohol, ie; Shooners on Ave L 30th west case in point! Though i do not patronize Shooner i think it’s just wrong..

I am going to assume since JD Kennedy already has TWO Dui’s that he will be avoiding Lancaster tomorrow.

It’s Sheriff but after seeing your comment I understand. Hope you don’t need their help anytime soon. If you ever read the articles in the other AV paper hundreds of people go through those every time they have them so obviously “everyone” doesn’t take another way.

I disapprove of your comment. For those of us who actually believe that Law Enforcement has stepped out of line, that they violate our Constitutional rights, that there is a problem that needs to be fixed; it makes it extremely tough to present any kind of argument when the first thing that happens is us getting lumped in a group with people like you. How about deriving an actual argument?

Mzs— From your so called comment, you must mean that the sheriff must be getting in your way, while you rob, cheat and make other people miserable.

Your DUI checkpoints suck. In ten minutes everyone traveling through the av knows where it is and just takes another way. The cops in Lancaster need something to do though lol.
