LANCASTER – A BLVD beggar was arrested Wednesday morning for stealing a sandwich from a 24-year-old woman.

Tariq Mohammad allegedly threatened to harm the woman if she did not give up the sandwich she’d just purchased from Brooklyn Deli, Sheriff’s officials said. The woman complied and ran away, and then 29-year-old Mohammad was arrested minutes later, according to a press release from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station. Read it below:

A Lancaster Deputy was “flagged-down” by a female on Lancaster Blvd for a robbery which had just occurred.

The victim told the deputy that she was threatened by an adult male demanding she give him the sandwich she had just purchased from a nearby deli.

The suspect initially begged for the sandwich, but the victim refused to give it to him. The suspect next became more aggressive and threatened to harm her if she didn’t give it to him.

Fearing for her safety she gave the suspect the sandwich, then ran away for help.

The deputy located the suspect, later identified as Tariq Mohammad, minutes later on the Blvd.

Suspect Mohammad was transported to the Lancaster Station Jail for booking. He was arrested for robbery and felony vandalism to county property.

He was held on $50,000 bail.

I’ve been in the AV for 29 years and this whole town is now unsafe. The public high schools are embarrassing.

Hmmmm . . . these people network really well about where the handouts are. The Antelope Valley Rescue Mission is less than two miles from the Blvd and serves 2 hot meals a day as well as offering other services to the homeless.
    Problem wasn’t hunger.
Problem is a disregard for the law, for the rights of others, and a violent nature.
How long will anyone keep shopping the Blvd if it is dangerous for women to go there?

People are shopping the BLVD? When? Where? I guess you can consider pints of craft beer at Kinetic, lunch at Lemon Leaf and and too many drinks for drunk twenty something’s at BeX as shopping. My wife and girls avoid the BLVD like the plague. The stolen sandwich says it all.

Shopping? Too funny. There are only about 2 blocks worth ‘strolling’ where Bex and the other restaurants are. The western end of the BLVD is pretty much what was already there, banks, and other non-shopping type businesses.

The BLVD was so ‘well thought out’ (sarcasm)

The homeless and the skateboarder issues were bound to happen because of the location.

I don’t hear Rex boast about the BLVD any longer. Does he have a short attention span or is there nothing to brag about?

Of course, all the solar farms and rooftop solar panels will bring business to the BLVD. (more sarcasm)

I am betting the problem is either drugs, alcohol or mental illness – any person of sound mind would know you can’t rob someone of their sandwich and expect to get away with it.

The average American is only 2 paychecks away from becoming homeless. May you never see a sidewalk as your new home……and really? A story about a sandwich robbery? AV Times, please focus more on positive stories and education, by the way, all high schools in the AV are less than a month away from graduation. Highlight some great students with excellent potential and a bright future. A sandwich? Give me a break!

I would have gladly given him my sandwich. Maybe even asked him to come back in the deli to see if he wanted anything else. Lastly, if I could swing it, give him a gift card for food later on.
Come on people. We have food. We have a roof. Share if you can. This man was hungry.

Kathleen: Why don’t you go rent a big bus, drive around the AV and pick up as many bums as you can and take them over to your house. You have a roof and food,, then they can all move in with you. And while you are at work they could baby sit your kids.

@ John I agree with your comment….@kathleen i understand but he should have asked for food and he should not have threatened to harm the woman.

The threat was over the line, agreed. However the narcissism shown around here towards the hungry and possibly mentally ill is just as out of line.

Kathleen Robison—Grace Resources less than a block away; Salvation Army a couple blocks away; a place off of Division between J and K that feeds 6 days a week. There is always some place a hungry person can go to eat in Lancaster. People network on the streets and they know what is going on at any given moment. Some thing else was going on with this man. Hopefully he will get help.

That is soo sad. I would have asked him if he would like another. Because apparently he was starving. Now he goes to jail. I’m sure she was shaken , but it was only a sandwich. Well at least he can get food in jail.
