Deadline extended for mobile home park board applications

Apply NowPALMDALE – The deadline for receiving applications for the five members of the City of Palmdale’s Mobile Home Park Rental Review Board (MHRRB) has been extended to Thursday, March 6, 2014.

“The MHRRB helps protect mobile home owners from unfair rent increases which jeopardize the ownership of their homes, while endeavoring to provide the mobile home park owners with a reasonable return on investment,” said Palmdale’s Housing Coordinator Terri-Lei Wheeler.  “Mobile home parks are a vital source of housing for low and moderate income households.”

Two applications (Mobile Home Park Rental Review Board and Volunteer) are required and are available on the City’s website at www.cityofpalmdale.org or in the City Clerk’s office.

Applicants must:

  • Reside within the city limits of Palmdale;
  • Not be a resident or owner of a mobile home park, an employee of a park owner, or have a financial interest in a mobile home or mobile home park as defined in Ordinance No. 1449 and by state law;
  • Be able to attend meetings and have a basic knowledge of the guidelines of the Mobile Home Space Rent Control, Section 5.44 of the Palmdale Municipal Code, which is available online at http://www.codepublishing.com/ca/palmdale.html.

Applicants should also possess a fundamental knowledge of business accounting (receivables, depreciation, capital expenditures, profit and loss statements, etc.).  Applicants are encouraged to attach a resume with their application.

Applications must be returned by 5:30 p.m., Thursday, March 6 to the Office of the City Clerk, 38300 Sierra Highway, Palmdale, CA  93550.

The Board holds at least an annual meeting in February and will schedule meetings any time the Board’s duties are necessary under the Rent Control Ordinance.

Board Members receive $100 per meeting, and the Chair receives $150 per meeting.  If appointed, a completed state mandated Statement of Economic Interests and Declaration of will be required.
