LANCASTER – The BLVD Association and the Antelope Valley Fair have announced the second annual “Wedding on The BLVD” contest, in which couples compete to win a free wedding on The BLVD in downtown Lancaster.

Engaged couples are encouraged to attend the 10th Annual Bridal Show at the Antelope Valley Fairgrounds on Sunday, Jan. 12 to enter the contest. The winning couple will receive a wedding for up to 50 guests free of charge.

“The BLVD has everything a bride and groom need to plan their perfect day, from the dress and venue to the catering and photographer,” said Jill Cooper, President of The BLVD Association and Vice President of Antelope Valley Bank. “The Wedding on The BLVD not only highlights the vast selection of first-rate wedding and event vendors downtown Lancaster has to offer, but also provides an opportunity for BLVD businesses to give back to our community by giving one deserving couple the wedding of their dreams.”

The contest kicks off at the Antelope Valley Fair’s Bridal Show on Sunday, Jan. 12 from noon to 5:00 pm, where engaged couples can visit the BLVD Association booth to film their video contest entries. Couples must be age 21 or over and the bride or groom must be a resident of the Antelope Valley region in order to enter. The bride and groom must both be present to film their entry. Admission to the Bridal Show is free; parking is $5.

Once the contest entries are complete, a panel of VIP judges will select the winning couple. Staff, members and relatives of The BLVD Association, the City of Lancaster and the Antelope Valley Fair are not eligible to win.

“Once the couple is selected, the fun begins,” said Erica Allbee, Vice President of The BLVD Association and owner of All About Fitness gym. “The bride and groom will select three options they like for a given aspect of their wedding – for example, the bride’s gown. Then, the public will be given the opportunity to vote online to choose which of those three options will be part of the wedding. This will be done weekly on each aspect of the wedding.”

The Wedding on The BLVD will include all of the following, at no cost:

  • Bachelor party at Kinetic Brewing Company
  • Bridal gown from Bella Bridal
  • Bridal gown alterations and preservation by George’s Cleaners
  • Bridesmaids’ dresses from Vintage Styles Now
  • Six-month membership to All About Fitness for the bride and groom
  • Salon services from Panache and Bella West Spa & Salon
  • Ceremony on the Bandstand Stage in front of BeX
  • Reception in downtown Lancaster
  • Catering for up to 50 guests by Giannini’s Bistro & Grill (additional guests may be added for an additional cost)
  • Wedding cake by Maribel’s Café and Bakery
  • Centerpieces by Lamplighter Candles
  • Wedding photography by award-winning Sutton Photography
  • Wedding photo framing by Graphic Experience
  • Entertainment by Renaissance Art Center
  • Honeymoon at a Ventura beach house, donated by Bella West Spa & Salon
  • And more!

Laura Calderon, the bride from the inaugural Wedding on The BLVD, will be on hand at the Bridal Show to answer questions and assist in interviewing contestants. She and husband Juan won a package worth an estimated $17,500.

“From the engagement to the honeymoon, The BLVD Association has been an integral part of our lives by giving us such a special gift, and we will never forget the wedding of our dreams,” said Laura Calderon. “We are so moved by all the generosity, kindness and love given to us by people who were once complete strangers. We are fortunate to now call some of those strangers dear friends.”

“Laura and Juan’s wedding was absolutely beautiful, and it was an honor working with this wonderful couple to create the wedding of their dreams,” added Allbee. “We look forward to meeting the winning couple for 2014 and working together to create a beautiful event with memories that will last a lifetime.”

maybe they could decorate the blvd with those rainbow banners that certain people demanded be taken down at the fair.

Last year they said no because it was not legal. Well…now it is. Not very same sex marriage friendly prize package though. What if there are only grooms? Or two brides?
Something tells me the chance of a gay or lesbian couple winning this and seeing a same sex wedding on the BLVD…nope..not going to happen.

Absolutely, LGBT couples are welcome to participate in the BLVD wedding. All of the BLVD businesses will do our best to provide the winning couple the products and/or services that best meet their desires.
