
LANCASTER – Hundreds of children will converge at the JetHawks Stadium this Saturday for a fun run, live entertainment, storytelling, and lots of exciting kids’ activities. For parents, the event is a chance to promote the importance of literacy in a fun-filled environment.
The 4th Annual Laps4Literacy event takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 12 at The Hangar, located at 45116 Valley Central Way in Lancaster.
The free community-wide family event is sponsored by Child Care Resource Center, and it is open to children of all ages, child care professionals, businesses, schools and community organizations.
The event will have something for everyone, including:
- A 5K Walk/Run/Stroll – click here to register
- Kids Fun Run, featuring prizes and pictures with KaBOOM
- Family Play Day, featuring free face painting, hair painting, story time, hands on Science, music and arts activities, reptiles exhibit, entertainment, raffle prizes and more.
- Health & Fitness demonstrations.

Every child that attends the event will take home an age-appropriate book. Organizers are also collecting new or gently read books. Please bring your donation with you to the event!
Laps4Literacy sponsors in the Antelope Valley include the Lancaster JetHawks, DeVry University, Kaplan Early Learning, Homewood Suites, and East Side Barber Shop.

Does anyone know if this 5k run is adult friendly? Seems to be more of a kid event.

Yes, the 5k is definitely adult friendly! There’s always some serious runners leading the pack! There’s a “fun run” for kids after the 5k.
