Activities in Palmdale this weekend

PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale will host several events this coming weekend for residents of all ages to enjoy:

G-Com Benefit Concert for Wounded Warrior Project – Oct. 5

G-Com Services is hosting the inaugural G-Com Benefit Concert in support of the Wounded Warrior Project, on Saturday, Oct. 5. Gates open at 11 am, with opening ceremonies at noon. Musical acts include Vagrant X (Classic Rock Band), Runaway (country), Joel Hatcher Band (Rhythm and Blues).

Tickets are $10 general admission; children under 12 with accompanying adult are free; and vets and active military with military ID are free. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Food will be available on site.

Massari Park Makeover  – Oct. 5

The City of Palmdale will host a makeover event at Domenic Massari Park, located at 37716 55th St. E. on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 8:30 to 1 pm.

“We’re looking for volunteers from our residents and businesses to help us with projects that include fencing, landscaping, light carpentry, painting and cleaning,” said Administrative Analyst Cheryl Hughes. “We need people with expertise in these areas, people who are willing to pitch in and help, and from businesses, donation of materials and supplies.”

Participants are strongly encouraged to pre-register at www.cityofpalmdale.org. On-site registration will take place from 8 to 8:30 am on the day of the event. Volunteers under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

All participants must complete and turn in a Release of Liability form at event registration, available at www.cityofpalmdale.org. Participants are encouraged to bring work gloves, use sun protection, wear close-toed shoes and be prepared or able to walk over uneven terrain. Water will be provided and verification of service hours available.

Bus Excursion: USS Iowa  – Oct. 5

USS IowaCelebrate the American Spirit on board the USS Iowa this Saturday, Oct. 5.

The cost is only $24 per person for Palmdale residents and $29 for non-residents. The bus will leave from the Palmdale Transportation Center at 9 am and return at approximately 5:30 pm.  Advance registration is required.

The journey will take participants through World War II, the Korean War and the Cold War to experience the life of a sailor on the lead ship of the last class of gunships. Walk the wood decks, see areas such as the 16” guns, 5′ guns, missile decks, bridge, and mess areas. Known as ‘The Battleship of Presidents,’ USS has hosted three presidents and numerous dignitaries during nearly 70 years of service. Please note that the USS is not ADA compliant.
