PALMDALE – Four suspects were arrested Wednesday afternoon, after bailing out of a stolen vehicle in traffic, authorities said.

The incident happened around 1 p.m. Wednesday on 10th Street East and Palmdale Boulevard, according to Sgt. Dave Sauer of the Palmdale Sheriff Station.

A patrol deputy had just received information about a possible stolen van, when she looked up and spotted a vehicle right in front of her that matched the van’s description, Sauer said.

“She starts to put out on the radio that she is possibly behind a stolen van, when the bad guys who were inside… they jump out and run in five different directions,” Sauer said.

Meanwhile, the abandoned van rolled into traffic.

“They left the van in drive, with the engine running,” Sauer said. “The van keeps going across Palmdale Boulevard, over the center divider, hits the curb on the south side, comes back into traffic with nobody in it.”

He said the patrol deputy moved quickly to stop the runaway van.

“She gets out of her car, puts her car in park, and runs on foot after the van, jumping in the open driver door to put on the brake and put it in park,” Sauer said.

More patrol deputies arrived on scene, and after containing the area, they caught up to four of the five suspects, Sauer said.

The suspects, whose names were not immediately available, were arrested and booked on various charges at the Palmdale Station.

The van had reportedly being stolen Wednesday afternoon from a restaurant parking lot parking lot in the 2100 block of East Palmdale Boulevard.

Wow, that guy in the pink looks just like a guy who I would imagine running out of a stolen van! Call it stereotyping if you want! It’d be foolish to think otherwise!
