Talented local artist Sergio Hernandez gives his take on a judge’s decision last week to award $4 million to a Lancaster couple shot by deputies looking for a parolee in 2010. What’s your take?

Dear Readers,
After more than a decade of serving the Antelope Valley, we have made the difficult decision to close The Antelope Valley Times. The site will no longer be updated, but all past articles will remain accessible. Thank you for your loyalty and support over the years.

The artist needs to work on delivery. Go to Cagle or other websites that have professional ones that do not rely on telling you what the cartoon means in complete setences.
The issue itself, does it shock anyone that a government employee made a mistake or abused their power. Wake up people it is not just cops, but IRS, NSA, Congress, President ETC

Great depiction of what rogue as well as experienced law enforcement personnel do. This practice will never cease…but they (LASD/LAPD) do pay a lot for this behavior, and we the taxpayers pick-up the tab.
AVGirl says
Do you know exactly what is being depicted? The artist is commenting on a very specific case and not some vague idea.
Are there bad cops out there? Yes there are. But it is wrong to assume all cops are bad. Just like it is wrong to assume all blacks are criminals or all Hispanics are illegal.
The news and other media has a habit of only highlighting the ones that mess-up, but neglect to showcase the every day heroics of our men and women who serve and protect.
Jason says
There was a case where two people were shot by deputies looking for a violent criminal. One of the people shot apparently came out of a shed holding a bb gun and the deputies staryed firing.
AVGirl says
I know that, you know that but I was curious to see if Yabba knew that.

I can understand how the general public and reades must feel regarding these types of incidents. Believe me when I tell you that agencies do take incidents very seriously. They are the last ones to want rogue cops on the streets armed.
sammy p says
The problem is there are many cops that do whatever they want with little fear of consequences. A cops boss is also a cop who will side with them on any issue that comes up, and they have union protections as well so they have very little to fear.

Sammy once again you have no idea what you’re talking about. Shooting investigations not only go for a civilian review board, they go through the FBI and the DA’s office. Please educate yourself before passing judgement. The district attorney’s office has prosecuted more cops in the last 5 years than the previous 20 years.
