CHP traffic stop yields 3 loaded firearms, parolee arrested

by M. Dilworth • July 19, 2013

LANCASTER – A 29-year-old parolee was arrested on numerous felony charges Friday after he dropped a loaded gun while running from officers during a local traffic stop, authorities said.

The bust happened around 4:30 a.m. (July 19) on Division Street, south of Lancaster Boulevard, according to a California Patrol Report.

Parolee Juan Estevan Castillo was a passenger in a black 1995 Honda Passport, which was stopped by two CHP officers for a minor traffic violation, according to the report.

During the traffic stop, Castillo exited the front passenger side and ran from officers. But he was quickly apprehended with the assistance of Lancaster Sheriff’s deputies and additional CHP officers, the CHP report states.

Castillo dropped a loaded semi-automatic handgun while jumping over a wall, the report states.

A search of the vehicle revealed two more loaded firearms, one of which was reported stolen, officers said. They also found Methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, according to the CHP report.

Castillo was booked at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station on numerous felony charges. The Honda Passport’s driver was also arrested, but the driver’s identity has not been released due to the ongoing investigation, according to CHP Officer Gil Hernandez.
