QUARTZ HILL – One of our readers sent in this photo, and says it was snapped Thursday (April 11) in front of The Estates in Quartz Hill, near Avenue M-8 and 45th Street West.
We can only imagine how the worker must have felt after realizing this mistake.
Luckily the error was corrected the very next morning, the reader says. Today we dropped by the spot and, sure enough, there was a freshly coated stop sign on the pavement.
Here is our photo of the stop sign on the pavement as it looks today.
Do you have an interesting photo taken recently in the Antelope Valley that you would like to share with our readers? Send the photo, along with a brief description of the story behind the photo, to editor@theavtimes.com. Thank you John K. for our Photo of the Week!

Able to see the fake says
Well AV Times and everyone that was fooled by this picture. It’s a fake. Look at the trees and other landscaping in both pictures. They’re completely different. Notice the Italian Cypress that is in the first picture is normal looking but in the second picture they are all spiral trimmed! Also look at the houses on the right. Notice how the chimney jumps from one house to the other. Oh and also since I live right near there I went looking for any signs of recent roadwork. There wasn’t any. I think you have all been April Fooled by the submitter! Have a good day people!
The AV Times Staff says
The trees may look different because they may have been trimmed in the three days in between when the two pictures were taken. If you look closely at the trees in the first photo (especially on the far right) you’ll notice that they are spiral trimmed, just overgrown.
Also, the chimney does not jump from one house to another. In the second photo there are actually two homes with chimneys on the right side. The first photo is cropped closer, so you are not able to see the chimney on the home on the far right.
When we dropped by there on Saturday, there was a freshly coated stop sign on the pavement, which would be evidence of recent roadwork. The second picture you see is the picture we snapped around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The first picture was reader submitted, so we cannot assure you of its authenticity. However, the submitter and other readers living at “The Estates” (independent of the submitter) assures us that they saw the error for themselves. Thanks for reading!

I hate to be the one to tell you this but your IQ must be lower then your shoe size cuz had you actually lived where your claiming too, then you would have seen it yourself. Maybe I’m wrong and you do live right by where the pictures were taken, which then reverts back to my first statement. Its okay if you didn’t know how to spell “Stop” and therefore to you nothing looked out of the ordinary. By chance where do you work? Lol… It was you that did it, wasn’t it.. lolololol. What size shoe do you wear? You poor kid… Well truth be told, its not a fake. I didn’t photo shop anything. What you see is what you get. Might wanna ask around the neighborhood before flapping your gums.

Sadly, this is not fake. My daughters softball coach lives in this neighborhood, I was dropping her off for practice the other day, and saw the STPO with my own eyeballs. In fact, one of the other parents had her kids standing next to it making silly faces and snapped off a picture herself. I also, have to add that the next day while on my way to QHLL field, I saw the landscapers out trimming the trees ;)
