PALMDALE – A driver spotted making a U-turn in an apparent attempt to avoid screening was one of four people arrested for DUI at a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint this weekend conducted by the California Highway Patrol.

Charquinta Gilchrist, 45, of Palmdale, was arrested around 10:26 p.m. Saturday for misdemeanor driving under the influence and booked at the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station on $5,000 bail.

The checkpoint was located on Sierra Highway, north of Avenue Q, and took place Saturday night and early Sunday morning. It was staffed by CHP officers trained in the detection of alcohol and/or drug impaired drivers.

According to Palmdale Station jail records, the three other people arrested for DUI at the checkpoint location included:

* Jose A. Delgado, 28, of Palmdale, arrested at 11:44 p.m., Saturday for DUI

* David Grajeda Molina, 22, of Palmdale, arrested at 12:30 a.m., Sunday for DUI

* Robely Lovell, 34, of Phoenix, arrested at 12:54 a.m., Sunday for DUI

Additionally, five vehicles were impounded and 22 citations were issued for various violations at the checkpoint, according to CHP Public Information Officer Gil Hernandez.

A total of 599 cars passed through the checkpoint, Hernandez added.

The CHP checkpoint was funded by grant through the Office of Traffic Safety in Sacramento.
