LANCASTER – It was a beautiful day at Clear Channel Stadium as the JetHawks opened up their 2013 promotional schedule with an Open House and announced LoanMart as their new presenting sponsor for the next two years.

The first 100 fans in attendance received free JetHawks T-shirts and everyone in attendance received LoanMart T-shirts and other LoanMart promotional items, as well.

On display were the JetHawks 2012 California League Championship Trophy and their Championship Ring. Fans of all ages were invited on the field to play toss and, after a free lunch of hot dogs and drinks, fans were invited to participate in batting practice.

General Manager Derek Sharp, now in his sixth season with the JetHawks, took some time to speak to me about the upcoming season, which begins at home on Thursday April 4, 2013 against the High Desert Mavericks.

When asked what fans can expect out of the defending champion JetHawks, Sharp sounded a confident note, saying, “Truthfully, I think we’re going to have another good team this year. I can expect us to be a solid team again.” He also lauded the Astros farm system indicating that there’s some great talent, especially in pitching throughout the system.

Though too early in Spring Training to gauge which players will wind up on what Astros affiliate roster, Sharp did indicate he’d expect some players from last year’s championship roster to return for 2013, such as 2B Delino DeShields, Jr. and CF Andrew Aplin.

He also took time to discuss some of the promo’s that are in the works for the fans in the 2013 season.

A replica championship ring giveaway during the JetHawks season opening home stand will certainly draw the crowds, as well a championship banner giveaway.

This season will see the return of the popular Snuggie giveaway and fireworks shows.

Also returning this year is the Star Wars themed weekend featuring the 501st Legion – Southern California Garrison and a KaBoom Jedi Bobble-Lightsaber in addition to the T-shirt and Jersey giveaways that JetHawks fans have come to appreciate.
