LANCASTER – East Lancaster will be seeing a new addition come Friday, Jan. 18. The 73rd Goodwill Southern California store will be opening bright and early at 8:45 a.m., with several drawings and hidden surprises for shoppers.

Grand opening festivities will be taking place throughout the weekend. There will be 200 free items hidden throughout the store labeled with special tags, and for every purchase of $50, shoppers will receive a voucher for $10 towards their next purchase.

Shoppers will also have a chance to win an iPad or one of two Kindles. There will be no purchase necessary to enter the drawing. Visitors will have to fill out a prize entry form to be entered.

“This will be our first store opening for 2013,” stated Sasha Itzikman, the Vice President of Marketing and Community Relations for Goodwill. “We’ve got career resource centers that are nearby, and we just found a terrific location that will guarantee our growth, as well as the community by offering them access to fabulous merchandise at a great value.”

The new store will be incorporating the new Goodwill store design, which according to Itzikman, “includes really sharp graphics, beautiful surfaces, is very well organized, and is easy to navigate”.

Several new job opportunities have been created with the East Lancaster store, and Goodwill does offer community service opportunities for those interested.

“For all of our stores, 93% of proceeds generated at the stores are dedicated to our no cost employment programs and services,” explained Itzikman. “We had very successful donations at the end of 2012, so there will be some great new merchandise coming your way.”

Goodwill also offers a way for the community to safely recycle electronic waste, which is a common issue in California.

“When people need to find a safe, convenient, and no cost way of recycling their electronic waste, they can bring it in to Goodwill, and we will take care of that for them,” said Itzikman.

Goodwill has helped over 9,500 individuals with their employment since 2011, offering services like education, training, work experience, and job placement. In the past year, they have diverted over 53 million pounds of usable goods from landfills.

The new Lancaster Goodwill store is located at 1770 East Avenue J. Its hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Read more on Goodwill Southern California here.
