Have ‘Coffee with a Deputy’ on Thursday

by The AV Times Staff • January 5, 2013

LANCASTER – ‘Coffee with a Deputy’ returns on Thursday (Jan. 10), from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., at the Lemon Leaf Café, located at 653 W. Lancaster Boulevard.

The informal open forum is designed to create a comfortable atmosphere where community members can meet with deputies from the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station to address problems facing them in their community, or simply get to know them.

Crime trends and public safety will be discussed, and there will be an opportunity for Lancaster residents to ask questions and voice their concerns.

Team members from the city of Lancaster’s Safety Office will also be on hand to provide information about the Neighborhood Watch program, as well as contact information for other city services.

For more information on the “Coffee with a Deputy” program, contact Deputy Miguel Ruiz at 661-948-8466 ext.4029.

    Great idead Adam Chant:
Why doesn’t the Public Safety office from Lancaster City Hall (on Fern, not the Tax Office) with all the staff they have, go out into a neighborhood and talk to neighbors about starting neighborhood watch programs. They have the information readily available to them, on which house is a rental and who is a owner. They are the people who get calls from citizens asking if there is a neighborhood watch group in their area? I’m sure they have plenty to do, but with technology those tasks should be much easier. Also, the Public Safety budget was not cut from what I read.

Dear Deputy Miguel Ruiz: This is a wonderful idea. However, you need to have another open forum on a weekend. Lancaster/Palmdale are big commuting towns. Having your forum on a weekday in the morning isn’t accommodating to those of us who commute. Thanks!

Whats wrong with having a beer with a deputy? There is nothing wrong with responsible drinking.
