Crash kills Lake LA woman

by K. Enrique • December 27, 2012

ANTELOPE VALLEY – A 47-year-old Lake Los Angeles woman was killed Wednesday night after her vehicle crossed into the wrong lane and caused a head-on collision, authorities said.

The fatal collision happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 26) on Avenue O, just east of 152nd Street East, according to a California Highway Patrol report.

Tracy Romero was driving a 2005 Dodge Stratus westbound on Avenue O when she allowed her vehicle to cross into the eastbound lane, directly into the path of a 2001 Ford truck, the report states.

The truck’s driver swerved to the right onto the south dirt shoulder to avoid the collision, the report states.

Still, Romero’s vehicle continued onto the south shoulder and struck the truck head on, the report states.

Romero, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics, the report states.

The truck’s driver – 50-year-old Ladislao Medina of Palmdale – was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital with major injuries.

The truck’s passenger – 66-year-old Sylvia Schaeffer of Palmdale – was also injured, and transported to Antelope Valley Hospital with moderate injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

They’re listed in stable, but serious condition at Antelope Valley Hospital.

The survivors had no driver’s license or insurance – are they telling the truth? This crash needs to be investigated!

Another tragic death on Avenue O. The second death this month within two miles. SPEED LIMIT 55! DOUBLE YELLOW LINE, NO PASSING! Violate it in my presence and CHP gets an immediate call. If others will call when these violations are witnessed CHP may increase enforcement and precious loss of life may be avoided.
