Choral Competition coming to The BLVD this Saturday

by The AV Times Staff • November 28, 2012

LANCASTER – The BLVD Association will host the first ever Music of the Season Choral Competition at 5 p.m., this Saturday, Dec. 1 on The BLVD.

The event will feature live holiday musical performances by choirs from local high schools.

Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend, as well as vote to select the winning choir.

“We have a tremendous amount of musical talent here in the Antelope Valley,” said Jill Cooper, President of The BLVD Association and Vice President of Antelope Valley Bank. “The BLVD Association is proud to sponsor this event to provide these gifted young performers with a venue to showcase their talent, as well as offer a family-oriented holiday event for the community.”

The choral competition will begin at 5 p.m. on the Bandstand Stage in front of BeX Grill, which is located at 706 W. Lancaster Boulevard.

The choirs from Quartz Hill High School, directed by Aaron Foley, and Palmdale High School, led by Mike McCullough, will perform.

The participants will compete for a prize of $500 for their choral program, with the winner selected by audience vote. Audience members may obtain ballots from any retail shop on The BLVD this Thursday through Saturday. Ballots may be submitted immediately following the choral performances.

“We encourage the community to come out and support the students of their favorite local high school,” said Cooper. “The Rebels and the Falcons are sure to provide an excellent show!”

In addition to the musical performances, Lancaster High School’s Interact Club will be on hand near the Bandstand Stage to provide free gift wrapping for patrons of BLVD businesses from 4 to 8 p.m. The community service club is chartered and sponsored by Lancaster West Rotary.

“We’d like to thank Barbara Frazier, adviser of the Interact Club, and her wonderful students for providing this service to our community,” said Cooper.
