LANCASTER – A Lancaster man who coached a traveling girls’ softball team is facing charges that he had sex with one of his teenage players this year, according to court records.
Jose Trinidad Lopez, 35, was a coach on a championship-winning junior fastpitch softball team in the Antelope Valley that included 14 to 18-year-old girls.
Lopez is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old player on his team.
The alleged sexual intercourse occurred on or between February and July of this year, according to court records.
Lopez was arrested at 4:55 p.m. on Aug. 7 and released about seven hours later on $100,000 bail, according to the sheriff’s department’s inmate information system.
On Aug. 15, Lopez was charged with two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, one count of committing a lewd act upon a child, and one count of sexual penetration by foreign object, according to court records.
Lopez is set to be arraigned in an Antelope Valley courtroom on Sept. 11.
