“Spokes of Art” contest winners announced

The "Spokes of Art" exhibit, shown here on display at Palmdale Regional Medical Center, will also be on display at the Amgen Tour of California Stage 6 start at Marie Kerr Park in Palmdale on Friday, May 18.

PALMDALE – Four winners were selected from more than 20 creative entries of decorated bicycle wheels by local artists as part of the City of Palmdale’s “Spokes of Art” contest held in conjunction with the Amgen Tour of California coming to Marie Kerr Park in Palmdale on Friday, May 18.

The winners are: 

  • Debra Schneider of Palmdale, Category: Best Theme Relating to Organization or Business;
    *
  • Marsha Furman of Palmdale, Categories:  Best Depiction of Palmdale and Fan Favorite;
    *
  • Sandi Duvall of Palmdale, Category: Breakaway from Cancer;  and
    *
  • Maria Castillo of Palmdale, Category: Most Artistic.

Each winner received a $50 Antelope Valley Mall gift card.

“We were very impressed by how creative the entries were,” said Palmdale’s Communications Manager John Mlynar. “Our local artists really transformed ordinary bicycle wheels into bona fide works of art.”

Entries from “Spokes of Art” contest were displayed at the Antelope Valley Mall and Palmdale Regional Medical Center. They will also be on display in the festival area at the Amgen Tour of California Stage 6 starting event on Friday, May 18 at Marie Kerr Park.

The ATOC in Palmdale on May 18 will begin at 8:30 am at Marie Kerr Park. Race attendees will have the rare opportunity to see world class Olympic and Tour de France athletes up close and personal. Fans may get autographs of the riders in their free Palmdale souvenir magazines that will be available at the event prior to the start of the race.
