Free Helmets for “Bike Safety Rodeo” participants this Saturday

by The AV Times Staff • April 27, 2012

PALMDALE –  The City of Palmdale, in celebration of the Amgen Tour of California coming on May 18, will host the first of two free “Bike Safety Rodeos” for children ages 5 through 12 this Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Palmdale Oasis Park, located at 3850 E. Ave. S in Palmdale.

The “bike rodeos” will feature a bicycle safety clinic with safety inspections and a safety presentation about the rules of the road. Participants will ride on a miniature “chalk street” course set up in the parking lot where young cyclists are shown where and how to apply the rules. Bike helmets, certificates and medals will be given away while supplies last.

“This will be a fun way to teach kids about bike safety and introduce them to a world class cycling event,” said Palmdale’s Recreation Supervisor Ryan Herman.

Participants must have a bike helmet and a signed parent/guardian permission slip to participate. Permission slips will be available at the event.

The next “Bike Safety Rodeo” will be held Saturday, May 12 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Antelope Valley Mall, 1233 Rancho Vista Blvd., in the parking lot between Sears and the south courtyard main entrance.

For more information on the “bike rodeos” please call 661-267-5611.
