Mediation Orientation Workshop set for Saturday

by The AV Times Staff • March 9, 2012

LANCASTER – The City of Lancaster’s Human Relations Tapestry Commission (LHRTC) will host a Mediation Orientation Workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, March 10 in the EOC meeting room at Lancaster City Hall, located at 44933 N. Fern Avenue in Lancaster.

Certified mediators interested in volunteering for city-referred mediations are encouraged to attend, as well as those interested in learning more about mediation.

The purpose of the program is to recruit certified mediators to volunteer their skills to help mediate and resolve disputes between neighbors and residents. Mediation participants will be empowered to resolve minor social issues and concerns between themselves, thus strengthening community bonds and relations among neighbors without burdening governmental systems or causing undue financial burdens.

Organizers hope the new mediation program will help residents to avoid unnecessary civil disputes, and eventually minimize the need for City Code Enforcement, Public Safety, and/or Sheriff Department staff to unnecessarily intervene in community nuisance issues.

There is a $20 fee to participate, which will provide for materials and a light lunch. No reservations are required, but space is limited. For further information, contact Brenda Gamlowski at 661-723-6013
