Volunteers needed for Feed My Starving Children effort

LANCASTER – Volunteers are needed at Journey Church this weekend to help members of the community pack meals for the Feed My Starving Children organization.

Jodi Jones and her husband Alan decided to raise $24,000, which would provide 100,000 meals to starving children in the world.

“I feel like God spoke to me and told me to do something for him,” said Jodi Jones. “God gave me the overwhelming desire to do something outside my comfort zone for others, and my passion has always been for children.”

The target goal has been exceeded thanks to Journey Church, Desert Christian Schools, Kiwanis, Quartz Hill MOMS Club and the local Rotary Club, said Alan Jones.

Almost $30,000 has been raised in the last year, said Jodi Jones; and Feed My Starving Children will now be able to provide 124,000 meals.

About 100 volunteers are required for each of the six, two-hour packing sessions scheduled for Friday and Saturday, said Alan Jones.

“Sign ups have been hugely successful,” he added. “Once again, our church simply does not have the bodies to support what will ultimately require 600 volunteers.”

Of the 600 volunteers, there are about 50 more volunteers needed, said Jodi Jones.

The sessions are as follows:

FRIDAY

  • 9:30 a.m. -11:30 a.m. (2 volunteers needed)
  • 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. (several volunteers needed)
  • 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. (several volunteers needed)

SATURDAY

  • 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. (several volunteers needed)
  • 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. (full)
  • 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. (full)

Packing sessions will be held at Journey Church, located at 42142 7th Street West in Lancaster.

Anyone interested in volunteering should call or email Jodi Jones at (661) 349-6581; jodilynn227@hotmail.com or jjones@desertchristian.com
