Foundation raises $44K for schools and classrooms

by The AV Times Staff • December 21, 2011

PALMDALE – The Board of Directors of the South Antelope Valley Education (SAVE) Foundation announced the results of its annual Dream Awards Dinner and Fundraiser.

After all expenses, the net total was $44,000 for schools and classrooms.

The SAVE Foundation is composed of the Hughes Elizabeth Lakes Union Elementary School District, Westside Union School District, Palmdale School District, and Keppel Union School District.

Annually, the Dream Awards honors a person or institution for their contribution towards education.  This year’s recipient was the Antelope Valley Press for its fair coverage of educational issues.  Past recipients have included Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, The Boeing Company, Northrop Grumman, and developer A.C. Warnack.

Funds collected this year went for field trips to college, Outdoor Science School, tutoring and sports.

“We’re very pleased with the support we received from the community,” said Dennis Shaffer, President of the Foundation.

Next year’s dinner is Nov. 1, 2012.  For more information, contact Cyndi Garcia at 661-266-7220.
