LANCASTER – With the holiday season in full swing, the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control (DACC) is inviting residents to the holiday adopt-a-thon, Whisker Wonderland.
Sponsored by Found Animals (www.foundanimals.org), Whisker Wonderland takes place between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 17, at animal care locations throughout Los Angeles, including the Lancaster Animal Care Center and Antelope Valley Adoption Only Center.
DACC’s adoption fees will be discounted on the day of the event (with the discount promotion lasting through Saturday, Dec. 24). As an incentive, adopters will receive a variety of free gifts for adopting on the day of the event.
Found Animals has partnered with Ortho Mattresses to obtain 500 pet beds, specially made for the Whisker Wonderland event. Adopters will receive a free Ortho mattress pet bed for their newly adopted animal along with goodie bags filled with coupons and pet food samples.
“Each year, the Department takes in more than 90,000 animals. There are not enough homes for all of them,” said DACC director, Marcia Mayeda. “Supporting adoption rather than irresponsible breeding is one way to significantly help reduce the pet over-population problem.”
Last year’s holiday adoption event placed 439 animals into new homes and this year’s event hopes to significantly top last year’s adoptions.
Residents are asked to visit one of the following seven County locations on Saturday, Dec. 17 to participate in Whisker Wonderland:

- Agoura Animal Care Center – 29525 Agoura Road, Agoura Hills, 91301
*This location only houses dogs immediately available for adoption and are ready to take home the same day.
