PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale recently authorized an additional 640 hours of overtime patrol by the Palmdale Sheriff’s station through Saturday, Dec. 24 to provide local shoppers with an additional measure of security while they conduct their holiday shopping.
“December is one of the busiest shopping times of the year, which also makes it one of the busiest times for criminals,” said Anne Ambrose, Director of Public Safety and Community Relations. “The additional patrols will be covering busy shopping areas where customers walk to and from the stores to their vehicles as they’re carrying their shopping bags.”
Local sheriffs will provide additional patrols to all of the City’s commercial retail areas, including but not limited to the area around the Antelope Valley Mall, along 10th St. West, and in larger East side shopping areas and businesses along Avenue S and Palmdale Blvd.
The volunteer mounted unit will also be helping patrol the parking lots.
“Residents will appreciate seeing our Sheriff’s department out and about on horses, bicycles, T-3’s, in vehicles and on foot patrol,” said Community Safety Supervisor Kelly Long.
