LANCASTER – The Lancaster Community Appreciation Project team (LANCAP) seized several bags of methamphetamine, valued at $20,000, and $5,000 in cash from a house near Antelope Valley High School Wednesday morning.
Antonio Rodriguez, 40, was arrested and booked at the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station for possession of illegal narcotics for sale.
The LANCAP team was acting on an anonymous tip that drugs were being sold from the house, on the 44900 block of Redwood Avenue, said Lancaster Sheriff’s Station spokesman Michael Rust.
“They set up surveillance on the house for over a week,” Rust said. He said during this time deputies observed drug activity which enabled them to get a judge to issue a search warrant.
Wednesday morning the LANCAP team served the warrant at the house, found the drugs and cash, and arrested Rodriguez, who was the only one at the house.
Rust said the drug operation’s proximity to the high school was a concern for the team.
“Redwood Avenue is like one block away from Antelope Valley High School, so obviously we want to keep the school zones as safe as possible” he said.
