SAN DIEGO — A 21-year-old Palmdale woman was one of two people killed early Saturday morning in a multi-car accident on Interstate 15 in San Diego, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Off-duty San Diego police officer Jason Prokop, 34, was also killed, and two other motorists were injured.

The Palmdale woman, whose name has not yet been released, was inside a stalled car on Interstate 15 near Mira Mesa Boulevard, when her car was reared ended by Prokop’s vehicle.

Three more crashes occurred as drivers tried to avoid the accident.

Prokop was reportedly struck by a passing driver as he tried to help the Palmdale woman who was trapped inside her car.

Both Prokop and the Palmdale woman died at the accident scene. Two other drivers suffered minor injuries from the pileup, and I-15 southbound was shut down for several hours as an investigation was conducted.

No arrests were made and the crashes remain under investigation.
