The OUTreach Center is launching a volunteer recruitment drive with two community meetings. The Volunteer Program will activate a fundraising drive, inaugurate the 2012 Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender Pride and special event planning season, and organize over 50 new resource volunteers for general support.
The program starts Sunday, September 11th, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the SEIU building at 42231 6th Street West, Suite 201, just north of Avenue M. A second meeting will be held on September 12th, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Starbucks Coffee at the corner of 20th Street West and Avenue I. Refreshments will be served at both sessions.
The OUTreach Center, formerly the Antelope Valley Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center, is a non-profit grassroots organization providing support, services, and social activities to the LGBT community of the Antelope Valley and its surrounding communities.
Previous community involvement by the OUTreach Center include an anti-bullying rally against the recent hate crime graffiti in Lancaster. The OUTreach Center board also received state and national media coverage, as well as legislators’ attention, for its efforts to address discriminatory actions at the Antelope Valley Fair. Over 200 revelers attended Gay Pride 2011 in June at Poncitlan Square.
The OUTreach Center supports an award-winning youth program entitled The OUT Project, and a professionally-facilitated transgender support group. The OUTreach Center is also launching a Book Club for Diverse Readers on September 18th, which will feature live conversations with popular writers of young adult LGBT literature.
