NAACP to host Section 8 Community Forum in the AV

by The AV Times Staff • August 25, 2011

Do you live in Section 8 housing in Lancaster or Palmdale? Have you faced racial discrimination or been harassed by law enforcement officials during housing checks? If so, then the NAACP and The Community Action League are inviting you to “Come Find Out About the Lawsuit Against the Cities of Lancaster and Palmdale.”

The Section 8 Community Forum will be held at 6 p.m., on Thursday, September 1, at the Larry Chimbole Cultural Center in Palmdale. Lawyers representing the NAACP and TCAL will be present to discuss the lawsuit against the Cities of Lancaster and Palmdale.

Topics of discussion will include:

  • Abusive policies and practices that target African-American and Latino Section 8 households.
  • The actions of Housing Authority investigators and the actions of City sheriffs.

There will also be a “Know your Rights” section, and participants will be given the opportunity to share their personal experiences.

The forum is for NAACP members, TCAL members and guests of members only. Guests will have to identify the TCAL or NAACP member who invited them at the registration table. Call 661-382-8225 for more information.
