by The AV Times Staff • August 17, 2011

PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale is inviting residents to a reception to celebrate the City’s 49th birthday. Festivities will take place from 4 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, at the Larry Chimbole Cultural Center.

“This will be an informal get together for us to celebrate Palmdale’s growth and success over the past four-plus decades,” Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford said in a statement.

Light refreshments will be served and Happy Birthday will be sung at 4:15 p.m. Palmdale natives and residents will be invited to share their memories of the early beginnings of the City of Palmdale.

The city of Palmdale was incorporated on August 24, 1962. At the time, the city was only 2 square miles with a population of approximately 7,100. Today, Palmdale is home to nearly 153,000 people, and over the past decade, it has emerged as one of the fastest developing communities in California while maintaining its wholesome, small-town charm.

Palmdale is the birthplace of stealth technology and home to some of the world’s largest aerospace companies like Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, Northrop Grumman, The Boeing Company and NASA.

Palmdale’s celebrity residents include Comedienne, TV Host and Actress Neicy Nash, Rap Artist Afroman, and Olympic Track Star Marion Jones.
