Attorney in the mayor’s law firm appointed to city’s redevelopment board

by The AV Times Staff • August 10, 2011

Kitty Kit Yee Szeto
Szeto appointed to Lancaster Redevelopment Board

LANCASTER — Mayor R. Rex Parris left the Lancaster Redevelopment Agency Board last month amidst complaints that his law firm’s purchase of a building in a redevelopment project area violated state law. Tuesday, City Council members appointed Kitty Kit Yee Szeto, an attorney at the R. Rex Parris Law Firm, to the vacant seat.

The appointment reportedly drew criticism from attendees who felt like selecting an employee of the mayor’s law firm was a conflict of interest.

The Mayor has reportedly stated that Szeto would abstain from voting on any redevelopment issues that concern property the Mayor’s law firm owns.

I personally do not believe that Rex has a ethical bone in his body. Look at a lot of the past decisions he has made and the friends he has appointed and you will find that is the case. Believe me when I say that it will bite him in the butt one day soon.

Of course there is NO conflict of interest. I’m sure the DA would prosecute. And if you believe any of that, I have a bride I can sell you . . . cheap!
