Destiny Marie Tennison, 22, of Boron, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s officer.
The single-vehicle collision occurred around 11:13 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Avenue I and 15th Street East in Lancaster, according to Lancaster Sheriff’s Station Watch Commander Lt. Daniels.
The male driver, whose name was not released, was driving eastbound on Avenue I, approaching 15th Street East, when his vehicle ran off the road onto a dirt shoulder, Daniels said.
“The driver overcorrected causing him to lose control of the vehicle,” Daniels said. “The vehicle proceeded through the intersection and struck a traffic signal pole.”
The driver was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital where he was admitted into intensive care, Daniels said.
“There was a preliminary toxicology result which showed him to have an elevated blood alcohol content,” Daniels said, adding that the driver’s blood alcohol level was substantially above the legal limit.
“His medical needs are more prevailing since he’s in intensive care, but he does remain liable of prosecution for the felony DUI,” Daniels said.
The incident is being investigated by the Lancaster Sheriff Station’s Traffic Enforcement Team.
