PALMDALE – The City of Palmdale’s “Semester of Service” program continues this weekend with the first of four “themed” tree plantings, which will take place in 2013 throughout Palmdale.
The theme will be Military and Defense Day.
Through a grant funded by CalFire, 450 trees will be planted over the next four months.
The three other “themed” tree planting events will be:
- Faith and First Responders Day on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Arnie Quinones Park, 41003 50th St. West;
- Cesar Chavez Service Day on Saturday, March 30 at Domenic Massari Park, 37716 55th St. East and at Marie Kerr Park, 39700 30th St. West; and
- Global Youth Service Day on Saturday, April 27 at Marie Kerr Park, 39700 30th St. West.
Registration for each tree planting will take place between 8 and 9 am, and the tree planting will occur from 9 to 11 am.
Organizations, clubs, churches, neighborhoods and individuals are invited and encouraged to participate in the tree plantings, which are conducted by the City of Palmdale, in collaboration with the Hollywood Beautification Team and CalFire.
Palmdale’s “Semester of Service,” the City’s participation in the “National Day of Service” in recognition of Jan. 21 being Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, began last weekend with an “Adopt a Block” clean up event and BBQ at Focus Neighborhood #1.
